Gujarat must develop intra-air connectivity: Praful Patel

Ahmedabad: Union minister of state for civil aviation Praful Patel has called upon the state government to take some lead in developing intra connectivity within the state, while unveiling the 18 feet tall statue of Sardar Patel at the Sardar Patel International Airport.
Replying to a question over demand for providing more connectivity to Surat, Patel said, "Nothing much has been done for giving intra connectivity in the state. Let the state take some measures."
He added that the civil aviation ministry was dedicated to give more connectivity to Ahmedabad as it is the seventh busiest airport in the state. For the London-Ahmedabad flights, Air India had ordered around 27 Airbus 787s but delay in supply of aircraft was hindering its schedule, he said, adding, "The airline was willing to restart the services even if we get aircraft on lease."
He further said that the Ahmedabad-New Jersey ( Newark) flight, which is direct flight from the city, will begin operation from Monday. This would be a non-stop flight barring Mumbai.
As for the issue of charging excess fare, he said that during November several airlines had charged exorbitant rates; hence, a committee has been formed to monitor fluctuation in private airlines' rates.
