HC restrains both Pawaskar and Raut from heading Air India union

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court today restrained both Shiv Sena MP Bharatkumar Raut and Nationalist Congress Party leader Kiran Pawaskar from acting as president of the All-India Cabin Crew Association (Air India employees' union promoted by the Shiv Sena) and directed that a fresh election be held.
Pawaskar quit the Sena last week and joined the NCP, which led to a row over control of the union of which he was once the president.
Justice SJ Kathawala directed that fresh elections for the post be held between February 15 and 28 with senior advocate Vijay Vaidya acting as election commissioner.
Notice for the election has to be issued to all employees by January 29 and the results would be declared on March 15.
The association had filed a petition in the high court praying that Raut be restrained from acting as the president as the members had unanimously resolved to appoint Pawaskar as president in their managing committee meeting on January 5.
