Ahmedabad: Nothing else could have been a more appropriate new year’s gift from the Airports Authority of India to people taking flight from or arriving at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. Along with the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) facility that will inform passengers about their flight status, AAI will also launch an SMS service. Once it starts, you need not wait for your call to connect to the customer care of an airline or keep redialling the airport’s inquiry number when it’s busy.
You just have to send the code name and number of an airline to a 10-digit mobile number, which AAI will soon announce. Within minutes you will get your current flight status.
The service, just like the IVR facility, will be first started for international flights and later on for domestic flights.
“This SMS service will also be connected with the Flight Information Display System (FIDS). Whenever the airline staff update the FIDS with the current time and status of the flight, it will be updated for the SMS as well. If the FIDS installed at the international airport displays ‘check-in’ or ‘now boarding’ status of your airline, the SMS service will also show you the same status,” said a senior official of an international airline requesting anonymity.
