AI engineer not allowed to join duty despite HC order

Chennai: A senior aircraft engineer of Air India was not allowed to join duty even though he got an order from Madras high court that stayed the termination order issued by the airline.
S Surendranath, chief aircraft engineer and an office bearer of All India Aircraft Engineers Association (AIAEA), was terminated by Air India on May 26, 2010 along with several others for protesting against a gag order issued by the management.
However, he moved Madras High Court stating that the termination was not in accordance with the rules and hence was invalid. The court granted an interim stay on February 7 and he sent copies of the order to senior management officials of Air India and also informed them that he would be reporting for duty.
However, Air India chose to ignore the court order and stopped him from entering the office on Friday. Security guards stopped his car at the gate of Air India's operations office at the airport and informed him that there is specific instruction not to allow him inside the campus.
Surendranath's attempts to contact officials inside the office also failed. "I reached at 8 am. But, they have not allowed me inside yet. Nobody has come outside to meet me also," he said. Surendranath waited outside the office gate for several hours. "I am planning to file a contempt of court order against the management," he said.
