AI seeks ‘third party’ to resolve salary row

Air India Ltd may seek outside help to resolve salary disparities and streamline working conditions for employees by 1 April, two airline executives said on Thursday, following meetings between labour unions and civil aviation minister Vayalar Ravi.
“A third party could be a retired judge, consultant or a small panel of experts to sort out the differences,” one of the executives of the state-owned carrier said, requesting anonymity.
An uneven salary structure has bogged down the cash-strapped company since it was created in 2007 by initiating the merger of Indian Airlines, which mostly operated domestic routes, with Air India, which until then serviced international routes.
The executive, cited above, said the company wants to bring human resources into a common book, harmonize pay packets and rationalise the career progression of both Air India and erstwhile Indian Airlines employees.
