Mumbai: Air India pilots, who have threatened to go on a strike if their salaries are not paid by Thursday, have not issued any strike notice yet but have adopted the wait-and-watch policy.
Incidentally, the management has not given any assurance that the salaries would definitely be paid on the date fixed.
Even as they did not receive any assurance from the Air India management, the pilots of the airline-who had threatened to go on a strike if their salaries were not paid by Thursday-have adopted the wait-and-watch policy.
With no assurance from the Air India management yet, it's wait and watch for the airline pilots who have threatened to go on a strike if their salary payments are not made by Thursday.
In the past one week, Air India has postponed the date for salary payment thrice, from February 7 to 10 to a third deadline of February 14. In protest, a section of Air India pilots has threatened to go on a "flash strike" on February 10, if their salaries are not paid by then.
Air India has two recognized pilots' unions, the Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA), the union of the former Indian Airline's pilots, and the Indian Pilots' Guild (IPG) that comprises pilots from the Air India wing of the merged airline. About 650 ICPA pilots operate most of the IC-coded domestic flights as well as the international flights to destinations in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. The IPG pilots, with about 700 pilots on their rolls, operate flights to the Middle East and to long-haul destinations like London, New York, Tokyo. A large majority of AI pilots get covered by these two unions.
