Air power: 2 lakh visitors, 45 countries

The 8th edition of the five-day Aero India show beginning February 9 will be longer by 30 minutes and the viewing area at the Yelahanka Air Force Station has been increased by almost 40 per cent.
Officials from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the co-organiser of the event with the Ministry of Defence, told Deccan Chronicle that close to two lakh spectators are expected to visit the airbase. Some 30% more visitors are expected than in the last edition of Aero India held in 2009 and empty plots near the hangars and static exhibition area have been roped in to generate more viewing space for the aerial acrobatics, the high point of the show. The air displays will be held twice daily between 10 am and 12.30 pm and 2.30 and 5 pm. Apart from the daily displays by the IAF's Surya Kiran aerobatic team and the Sarang helicopter display team, a major attraction of Aero India 2011 is the Flying Bulls Aerobatics Team from Kazakhstan.
“The present edition of Aero India has attracted 25 per cent more foreign participation compared to the last show. In all, 380 foreign companies and 295 domestic companies will participate. While we are expecting delegations from 45 countries, we have 29 exhibiting countries during the five-day air show,” the official said.
