Airport Express Line not to cut down travel time

New Delhi: Checking-in at the stations in Delhi Metro Airport Express Line and travelling between Delhi and Mumbai will take the same time, it seems. The Delhi Airport Metro Express Private Limited (DAMEPL) and Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) have proposed the check-in to be two-and-half hours prior to the flight time.
If passengers check-in at the airport itself, they can do so 45 minutes prior to the flight time.
According to DAMEPL spokesperson, the proposal has been sent to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security for their approval.
The travelling time from New Delhi Station to the Airport in the new line is expected to be between 20 and 25 minutes. While the plan to introduce check-in facility at the stations was received very well by passengers, this move has not been taken positively.
“What is the point of having a check-in facility at the station if one is expected to reach so early? It takes lesser time to reach the airport in a taxi,” said Rakesh Shandilya, a resident of Chandni Chowk. Shandilya is a frequent flyer.
“This is a little on the higher side for domestic travellers. We are hoping that those who do not belong to Delhi will be the main users of this service,” said an Air India official.
However, DAMEPL officials maintain that two-and-a-half hours is the ideal time.
