Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has asked airlines to cover their cargo trolleys to prevent luggage from falling off while being transported from cargo complex to planes.
DGCA issued this directive following an incident at Mumbai airport on December 15 when a drum containing radioactive material (cancer medicine) fell off from Air India’s trolley while it was being wheeled to the aircraft. Although there were no radioactive leaks, an inquiry was carried out.
Cargo trolleys used for carrying passenger bags and parcels on narrow body aircraft are covered on three sides.

The fourth side has either flaps or curtains, or is covered by plastic wraps. Items are offloaded from this side and kept in the aircraft.
