Govt gives only 1.2k cr to AI in Budget, not 2k cr

New Delhi: There appears to be no end in sight for cash-strapped Air India's woes. While the aviation ministry had asked for Rs 2,000 crore as equity infusion into the airline next fiscal, the government is learnt to have a made a provision of Rs 1,200 crore in the coming Budget. Aviation minister Vayalar Ravi will meet FM Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday and seek more funds for the airline at least the amount originally sought.
While seeking funds, Ravi is applying the much-needed healing touch to highly demoralized employees. "I will meet employee unions in Mumbai on Wednesday and Thursday. They may have grievances and the basic aim will be to know their mind on the issues and to what extent they can cooperate to take Air India forward," he said.
The ministry has already decided to review some controversial and highly expensive appointments made for top AI positions last year. Reacting to the first removal of such an appointee, AI Express COO Pawan Arora, Ravi said: "The turnaround plan is under discussion and the removal of one individual does not affect that."
AI has received an infusion of Rs 2,000 crore this fiscal.
