Metro all set to check in at IGI Airport

New Delhi: The stations are ready; the line is complete and functional; but Reliance, the concessionaire for the Airport Express Metro line, says that the Metro will be thrown open to the public only by mid-February. Lalit Jalan, CEO and director, Reliance Energy, told Times City: "CISF is responsible for security and deployment is underway. After that is done, we will take another few days to get the line ready…it should be open to the public by February 20."
He also admitted that the check-in counters will come up several days after the line is open - probably after a month. "Check-in facilities will be available after a month of the opening, which will be provided by Air India and some other major airlines that we are in talks with," said Jalan.
The Saturday inspection of the Airport Express Metro by Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit left both her and her entourage, including the DMRC head, E Sreedharan, impressed. The CM described it as "modern" and "built very beautifully", which should be music to the ears of Delhi Airport Metro Express Pvt Ltd. (DAMEPL), Reliance Energy's subsidiary and the concessionaire of the IGI link. The line, which promises to take you from New Delhi station (located next to the New Delhi Railway station) to IGI Airport in 18 minutes, is the only high-speed metro connection in the country.
