Chandigarh: When the Instrument Landing System (ILS) was finally installed at the city airport last month, it was expected to bring an end to fog-related disruption of schedules. However, even after conducting air and ground calibration, the device has not been put to use, apparently all due to bureaucratic red tape.
The delay in issuance of clearance certificate of the newly installed ILS ' a navigation aide required for safe landing of flights during poor visibility ' at the airport from director general civil aviation (DGCA) has once again left the air passengers high and dry.
Two of the three steps required for completing the installation ' Air Calibration and Ground Calibration ' have been completed and the only thing pending is a clearance certificate from DGCA.
