Air India pilots not to go on strike

Mumbai: Flyers can breathe easy. Air India pilots will not be going on strike on Wednesday as the Delhi high court has issued an order restraining them from doing so.
The Indian Commercial Pilots' Association (ICPA), the union representing pilots of the erstwhile Indian Airlines pilots, had first issued the 14-day strike notice on February 24. These pilots operate most of the AI flights on domestic routes and those to the Middle East and South East Asia.
The pilots deferred the strike date twice after the civil aviation minister intervened and promised that the airline would look into their grievance of salary disparity. The pilots were slated to strike work on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Justice Gita Mittal, in an order, directed the ICPA to adhere to its undertaking in court, assuring not to take any coercive step till the conciliation proceedings headed by the Chief Labour Commissioner conclude. "The airline management has agreed to the constitution of an independent committee to look into our demands," said an ICPA spokesperson.
