Another pvt airliner to operate from Gannavaram

Gannavram: Air traffic from Gannavaram airport is all set to take new wings with another private airliner deciding to operate a flight to Hyderabad from here.

The new Jet Airways flight is likely to take skies from March 27. At present, only Kingfisher is operating two flights -- one each to Hyderabad and Bangalore. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has confirmed the launching of operations by Jet Airways, urban development authority vice-chairman Vijayakumar said.

At a recent meeting with Krishna district in-charge minister Galla Aruna Kumari, industrialists and frequent fliers from the city charged AAI with taking sides with one operator. They complained that with only one operator running the flights from Gannavaram, the airfare was costing a bomb during peak seasons.

While the normal fare from Vijayawada to Hyderabad is around Rs 3,000, the private airliner was charging as high as Rs 10,000 per trip and Rs 12,000-14,000 for a Bangalore flight. "It is unfortunate that we are made to cough up more than what we pay for a trip to Delhi from the international airport in Hyderabad," commented industrialist M Rajaiah.
