Fake pilots multiply, spook regular flyers

Chennai: With the recent suspension of several pilots by the directorate-general of civil aviation for forging documents to obtain their licences, people are suddenly worried about their safety while flying.
Frequent flyers are particularly apprehensive because their work necessitates travel by air.
He identified an auto pilot-mode landing at Hyderabad airport recently by an IndiGo pilot, which was later confirmed to this paper by the airline.
“After we landed, passengers actually started clapping that we touched down safe and sound,” he added.
“With the aviation industry getting competitive, there is a scramble for pilots. The system naturally has to ensure that this demand for pilots doesn’t compromise passengers’ safety at any stage,” he added.
When contacted, Air Passengers’ Association of India national vice-president Milan R. Zatakia said, “The matter is of great concern.” He added that frequent flyers tend to be a little more anxious as their awareness levels about aircraft are higher.
