Feeder bus service from Airport Metro station to T1D

New Delhi: Soon you will see buses ferrying the passengers of the airport expressline metro station to terminal 1 of the Indira Gandhi Airport. Talks are on between all stakeholders to run the service keeping the airport metro commuters in mind. After deboarding the metro train, T1D-bound passengers would get free bus rides between gate number 11 of the station and the T1D terminal.
The final decision in this regard is likely to be taken in a review meeting of the expressline service on Thursday. This meeting would be attended by representatives of the Delhi Airport Metro Express Pvt Ltd (DAMEPL), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, Airport Authority of India (AAAI) and Delhi International Airport (P) Ltd. (DIAL)
"DIAL runs a shuttle service in the airport. We have appealed to the agency to get the service synchronised with the metro timings" said KP Maheswari, director, DAMEPL, the concessionaire company.
On an average, 6,000 people board the Expressline everyday, a number much less than the expected ridership of 25,000.
DAMEPL officials believe that once communication between the two terminals becomes smooth, the footfalls will increase.
Nearly 15,000 people travel by airlines like SpiceJet, GoAir and Indigo which operate from T1D. The initiative to launch passenger check-in facilities is also likely to be discussed in the meeting. The proposed facility has led to renewed discussions about beefing up security at the airport.
