Shimla: State Government would explore possibilities of constructing international airport near Shimla, Una and Nadaun to accommodate international flights and connect industrial areas in Nalagarh, Baddi and Barotiwala with upcoming international airport at Mohali. This was stated by Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister in his presidential address in Hamachal Pradesh State Annual Seminar-2010-11 of the Confederation of Indian Industry held here last evening on theme of : Infrastructure for Sustainable Growth.
Chief Minister said that quality infrastructural upgradation was being emphasised and the State Government had taken up the upgradation of existing airports at Shimla, Kullu, Manali and Kangra with the Government of India, where landing of bigger aircrafts had been sought with night landing facilities. He said that additionally, State Government had created a vast network of helipads in different parts of the State which could be used for quality and high end tourists visit. He said that the State Government had launched Heli-Taxi service for the people who had limited time for holidaying. He said that the State Government would explore possibilities of constructing helipads in industrial areas and interlink with heli-taxi services to save travelling time of the industrialists as also help them in carrying their trade and commerce activities more conveniently.
Prof. Dhumal said that with a view to focussed planned development, the State Government also be considering constitution of dedicated development authorities on the analogy of Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh Development Authority to ensure speedy development of different industrial townships in the State. He said that the State government would also encourage industrial partnership in setting up of IIIT and ESI Hospital in the industrial areas, so that professionals of high calibre were produced to meet the demand of the industries as also make quality health services available to the industrial workers. He said that State Government was also endeavouring to get one Indian Institute of Management set up as the IIIT classes had already been started at Mandi, NIFT, classes at Kangra and ESI Medical College was also likely to get functional from next academic session. He said that efforts were afoot to motivate private parties to open medical college in Industrial area.
