June 30 deadline for airports to get aerodrome licences

The Karnataka High Court on Friday disposed of PIL based on the records produced by Airports Authority of India that as per the Centre’s notification dated July 19, 2010, all airports in the country, including the Bajpe airport near Mangalore, have been directed to obtain permanent aerodrome licence on or before June 30, 2011 from the Director General of Civil Aviation.
AAI said steps are being taken in this direction and, in respect of Mangalore airport, the license was renewed on monthly basis ever since it expired on June 15, 2010, just few days after the Air India Express IX 812 crash.
A division bench disposed of the PIL while pulling up AAI for its callous attitude in renewing licences of airports in India.
The high court on Friday extended the stay on probe by Justice Padmaraj Commission to look into the large-scale land grab irregularities, till May 27.
The state was directed to file objections to the plea of petitioner Y.S.V. Datta to implead Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa in the matter, within four weeks while the petitioner was directed to file counter-affidavit in two weeks.
