Refund Rs6,400 for missing baggage, airlines told

Chandigarh: The district consumer forum has directed Jet Airways to refund Rs 6,400 to a passenger along with litigation cost of Rs 5,000 for misplacing his luggage.

The orders has been passed by presiding members Rajinder Singh Gill and Madanjit Kaur Sahota of the district consumer redressal, forum-I, while allowing a complaint by Manimajra residents Kanwal Vohra.

The complainant informed the forum that on June 26, 2010, he was travelling on the Delhi-Bangkok Jet Airways flight along with 8 other members of his family.

The complainant had booked five bags at Delhi airport, but when the family reached Bangkok they found that one belonging to his daughter Shreya Vohra missing.

The matter was immediately brought to the notice of the local handlers of the airline in Bangkok who lodged a complaint of missing baggage and gave a receipt. On their arrival in Delhi on June 30, 2010, the complainant contacted the duty officer of the company at the airport and apprised him of the loss. The latter assured that either their baggage would be traced or they would get compensation, but nothing was done.
