BMC men start razing top floor of Juhu building

Mumbai: The civic body on Wednesday finally began demolishing the top-most floor of a building on Juhu's Gulmohur Road. The move follows a notice issued a month ago to the developer of the 11-storey structure for constructing the floor without the permission of the Airports Authority of India.
Confirming the BMC action, an official said, "We had served a notice under the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act directing the builder to carry out the demolition."
Standing committee member and local corporator Adolf D'Souza said, "Staffers of the building proposal department and K-west ward office have started razing the illegal floor but it will take them some time to finish the work."
The building hit the headlines after TOI first reported on how the BMC had sanctioned 386 car parks for a mere 33 flats in the high-rise that has three wings with one flat on each floor in every wing. Nine car decks had been sanctioned on every floor and local residents had complained that the builder was selling them as part of the flat in violation of Development Control Regulations.
