Clean chit for air traffic control officer

Patna: Inquiries conducted into the reported lapse in air traffic control system at city's Jaya Prakash Narayan International (JPNI) airport, which almost caused a disaster here recently, have found no fault with the air traffic control here.
"Inquiries conducted by both the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Director General for Civil Aviation (DGCA) have given clean chit to the air traffic control officer (ATCO) who was manoeuvring operation of flights when the incident took place," senior airport officials told TOI.
After a comprehensive investigation, AAI's team found that the fault was that of the pilot of IndiGo Airlines aircraft, and not with the ATCO on duty.
On March 26, IndiGo's evening Kolkata-Patna-Bangalore flight (6E-342) had almost started moving when Kingfisher's Kolkata-Patna flight (IT-4579) started approaching the same runway. The incident happened at around 6.45 pm. The two aircraft, together carrying about 250 passengers, had come within 2000 metres of each other when ATC officials suddenly asked the Kingfisher flight, which was in the landing position, to 'go around' in the air.
"The IndiGo flight had gone onto the runway without final checks and cabin clearance. The IndiGo pilot had hoped to get cabin clearance within 120 to 140 seconds from the point of time the flight reached onto the runway. This time limit is normal. But the flight took more than 300 seconds to get cabin clearance," an official of the investigation team told TOI.
