Mumbai: Gurgaon-based budget airline IndiGo has asked its pilots to own up if they had submitted fudged documents to secure employment with the airline.
"We are internally scrutinising our pilots' records of documents for authenticity. If there is any information in this regard that you wish to fully disclose to us or if you feel that there is any discrepancy in any of the documents submitted by you, we strongly encourage you to please contact the human resource department or myself (Aditya Ghosh) immediately," IndiGo president Aditya Ghosh said in an internal e-mail to pilots on March 24.
On March 10, the Delhi crime branch arrested IndiGo pilot Parminder Kaur Gulati for flying without proper documents. As the scam unfolded, more pilots and also officials of the DGCA were arrested. The nexus between the pilots and the DGCA is being probed. The three airlines, whose pilots have been caught till now, are Air India, SpiceJet and IndiGo. IndiGo has 412 pilots on its rolls of which 32 are women.
Though DGCA primarily conducts examination for commercial pilot licences and issues mark sheets, the airlines, according to the director general of civil aviation, EK Bharat Bhushan, cannot wash their hands off completely from involving themselves in the process. That is why IndiGo has started the process of internal scrutiny, said aviation industry officials. Aviation experts involved with pilot training say the move will instill confidence among travellers.
