Landings safe: Hansa Commander

Vasco: Commander of INS Hansa Ravnith Singh on Tuesday claimed that flights have been landing safely at Dabolim airport even when few navigational aids along the runway have been turned off during the runway repair work.
“In the absence of these devices, military operations have been operating smoothly and civilian aircraft have landed safely on many occasions. Even today, an international flight landed during this restricted period,” said Singh.
Speaking to Herald, Singh expressed dissatisfaction over reports in the national media and said “All commercial airlines including Airport Authority of India (AAI) were briefed about the restriction of runway length and closure of aid device during the two-and-half hour civilian aircraft operation”.
“NOTAM (Notices to Air men) was issued on April 1, after briefing all airlines about the closure of these facilities from April 4 to 30 for periodical maintenance of the runway,” said Singh.
“All the airlines were provided with minutes of meeting so that they could produce it before management and work out rescheduling of timings during restricted hours with their management”, added Singh.
He informed that the total runway length is 11,250 ft, which is quite lengthy compared to other metro airports in the country.
