Strike on, flights nosedive

Kolkata: As the ongoing strike by Air India pilots entered the third day, passengers were the worst-hit. Many had been stranded for hours until they were accommodated on the aircraft of other airlines, while many others preferred to either cancel their tickets or change travel plans.
Journalism student Catherine had spent a few tensed hours in Bangalore airport before she was finally flown into Kolkata on Friday morning, only to live through a few more hours of uncertainty as she was to take an AI flight to Guwahati. She was to take the 6 am AI a flight to Kolkata and then the 9.55am flight to Guwahati. She was accommodated on another flight by late afternoon.
"I kept checking with the airline last night. They could not give proper information. Hence, I reached the airport in the wee hours. They accommodated me on a Jet Airways flight. But by then I had already wasted three hours," said Catherine. She was stranded in Kolkata for almost four hours before she could take a different flight to Guwahati.
Not so lucky to get an alternative flight was Brazilian Rodrigo Castro. On a vacation, he was to fly to Kathmandu on Thursday afternoon. On reaching the airport, he found the flight cancelled. He called the airline on Friday morning. He was asked to come to the airport. Taking that as a green signal, he came with his luggage only to be told that the flight was not taking off.
