Weekend travel ban: A-I pilots to shun outstation duty

New Delhi: Air India management and pilots had another face-off when pilots decided to protest against an order on weekend travel by airline staff, issued recently on orders of the CMD. They said that in the spirit of the order issued by the management, they would not report for outstation duty on weekends, a move that could result in disruption of about 15% of daily flights.
Pilots were also up in arms against an alleged order by the management to not permit the general secretary of their Indian Commercial Pilots' Association to fly to Delhi on an AI flight on Friday for a meeting with the chief labour commissioner. The management denied the allegations.
The order issued by the management on April 11 said that to "improve the revenue yields on flights on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday of the summer vacation travel, it is necessary to make available more number of seats which is otherwise blocked for SOL (staff on leave) and SOD (staff on duty) travel".
