Ahmedabad: The end of the strike by Air India pilots has not brought operations of the airline back to normal at the city airport. On Saturday, Air India operated just a couple of flights from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. In the last 10 days, the airport has seen cancellation of over 150 Air India flights. Flyers from the city, especially international passengers were most affected. Many passengers travelling to the Middle East had to stay in hotels for days before they were sent to to their destinations in special flights.
On Friday, 800-odd Air India pilots called off their strike after the government and the pilots' union reached an 'understanding' on their demand for pay parity and fixed flying hours. Air India officials said it expects full normal operation of domestic flights from Monday, as the striking pilots start reporting for work. But it will take time as the pilots will have to get their flying schedules and medical checkups done. "Air India will be restoring over 50 percent of all flights in the domestic network on Sunday and all scheduled flights will begin from Monday," said an official.
However, the end of strike has brought good news for domestic fliers as private airlines had jacked up prices after Air India flights were cancelled.
