DGCA clears debris, leaves probe to panel

New Delhi: A team of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation finished collecting the debris of the Pilatus PC-12 aircraft from its crash site at Faridabad's Parvatia Colony on Friday, almost 36 hours after the accident that left seven passengers and three others dead. Aircraft parts required for further investigation, photographs of the site and witness statements recorded are now going to be handed over to the independent committee that the aviation ministry has set up to probe the crash. The pilots' conversation with air traffic control has also been secured and seized for the inquiry panel.
"We will not be interfering with the probe now and that job is over to the panel," said a senior DGCA official. The ministry has set up a three-member panel for the probe. This panel will now decide whether a court of inquiry that will hold regular public hearings (as was done in Mangalore crash probe) should examine the crash or a committee of inquiry would be enough.
"Prima facie it seems that the aircraft got into very bad weather and could not recover. May be those on board the plane realised that the weather was turning bad fast but did not avoid flying into it as they had a very seriously ill person on board who required immediate hospitalisation," said a seasoned aviation industry personnel.
