'Local's resistance to Mopa airport must be addressed'

Margao: The Indo-French seminar on sustainable tourism happening in south Goa emphasized on 'responsible tourism'. The two-day seminar brought together participants from India and France and a range of players in the field of sustainable tourism
"India is on the same page as the rest of the world as far as international conventions on tourism are concerned," consul general of France in Mumbai Francois Pujolas said on Thursday.
Eco-tourism society of India president Mandip Singh Soin said India is at a critical juncture where the impact of tourism should not adversely affect development.
"The mother word is responsible tourism as eco-tourism should not speak of preserving nature on one side and another segment of tourism spoiling it on the other side," Soin said.
Bringing the focus to tourism in Goa, state tourism secretary D C Sahoo said that since 1975 tourism has gained tremendously and with it came corresponding infrastructure development.
"Goa is developing properly right now and will have no problems in meeting future needs," Sahoo said.
Projects assessment and appraisal committee's former chairman Nimal Andrews said MoEF will have to take into account views of the local government while planning airports like Mopa and address local's resistance.
