New Delhi: Air India on Tuesday — Day 7 of the erstwhile Indian Airlines pilots' strike — decided to withhold the salary payment for April to the striking pilots till they resume work. This is a further sign of a deadlock between the striking pilots and the management.
Even the Delhi high court on Tuesday lambasted both the sides for their failure to resolve the crisis. "It seems that you are also not interested in getting the strike called off," a division bench headed by Justice B D Ahmed told Lalit Bhasin, the counsel for the Air India management.
The aviation minister, Vayalar Ravi, is learnt to have decided that only one of the four demands of the striking Indian Commercial Pilots' Association (ICPA) could be considered.
"The pilots want re-recognition of ICPA but that matter is before the court now and we can't take a call on that. They have asked for fixed salary for 75 hours and some other interim hikes like an additional Rs 20,000 along with $2,000 overseas allowance per month. And they want the Dharmadhikari committee to first give an interim report on parity of AI and IA pilots. These three can't happen," sources said.
