Now, AAI to take stock of monkey menace at Ahmedabad airport

Ahmedabad: The growing monkey menace at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport has got Airport of Authority of India (AAI) senior officials in Delhi worried. Sources say the AAI wants a team of experts to study monkey`s behavioral patterns, their timings of visit and reasons why they frequent the airport.
For the past five months, monkeys walking the runway has become an everyday affair. This forced the airport air traffic control authorities to delay flight operations. Recently, the monkeys were spotted sitting on wings of parked airplanes and on the roof of newly constructed international terminal building.
For quite some time now, the ATC has started sending staffers in jeeps to scare away the monkeys from the runway, especially in the evening.
"AAI has invited expression of interest from consultants for carrying out study on the monkey menace in Ahmedabad and some other airports where simians are creating trouble for officials. The consultant will prepare a detailed report on their behavior, actions and hideouts near the airport. The report will also recommend possible solutions to tackle the problem," said a senior AAI official.
