Chennai: Air India employees in the city were happy when their delayed salaries finally came on Tuesday. But they were in for a shock. The payslip was in Hindi.
The airline's sudden love for the 'Rashtra Bhasha' has put around 1,800 employees in a spot. Most of them don't know the language. The payslips, which were in English for long. were made bi-lingual (English and Hindi) last month. This time, they were only in Hindi.
The pilots who struck work recently and the ground staff who extended moral support to them during the 10-day strike see a conspiracy in this. An AI spokesperson said: "Payslips are in Hindi this month. Hereafter they will be issued in the regional language preferred by employees."
