Airport Express: Big hit with fliers in first week

New Delhi: A week after check-in facility was started on the Airport Express metro line, the concessionaire claimed that over 2,000 people had used it. Sources reported that the system was working successfully, with the number of check-in going up from 150 last Friday, the first day, to 450 on day 7. Civil aviation ministry sources, however, pegged Thursday's figure at 205.

Airlines sources said there was a lot more potential to be tapped as several passengers were still not aware of the facility. "We would call the response from passengers as average though they are being offered a very convenient system. Only about 200 to 250 passengers are using the check-in facility each day primarily because DAMPL has not publicized much about the facility. Sunday was the only exception with a good turnout," said an airline official.

On the first day, Air India officials said they had around 21 passengers checking in at the metro stations. Other than Sunday when they had about 150 passengers using the facility, about 80 passengers are using the facility on an average. Jet Airways sources said the airline was getting an average of 80-90 check-ins a day .
