Flights delayed, diverted at IGIA

New Delhi: While the squall and rains early in the morning on Friday brought relief to Delhiites reeling under scorching heat, passengers at the Delhi airport weren't cheering for it. Many flights were delayed and eight arrivals had to be diverted due to bad weather conditions at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday. The diverted flights included four international, two domestic and two cargo flights.
Flights were diverted to airports like Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Nagpur and Kolkata as strong winds made it difficult for pilots to land their aircrafts in Delhi.
The flights were diverted between 5.18am and 5.50am. One departure flight of Kingfisher Airlines (IT-3341) was rescheduled to 6.30am, as it could not take off from the Delhi airport due to bad weather.
"Squalls like the one experienced on Friday morning are going to be a regular feature at the Delhi Airport," said RK Jenamani, director-in-charge, IGIA met unit.
