Uniformity crucial in aviation safety laws to combat terror

Uniformity in aviation security laws, technology and systems is a crucial requirement to effectively combat terror threats, especially in the most-affected Asia-Pacific region, Civil Aviation Minister Vayalar Ravi said on Tuesday.
"I think there is an element of indivisibility in security. The entire system has to be integrated in a manner that no weak link is left anywhere for a criminal or a terrorist to attack", he said while inauguaring a conference on cooperative aviation security programme of the region.
Stressing joint pooling of resources by Asia-Pacific nations, he said this region has had "a history of political turbulence in some form or the other for the last few decades.
Such disturbances have "affected our socio-political fabric and impacted our public services, including civil aviation", he said, adding that the region was thus exposed to a fragile security environment.
He also pointed out that while best technologies were costly, most economies in the region found it difficult to adopt expensive technologies.
