Air crash: Will families demand more?

Mangalore: Will the Kerala High Court judgment on Wednesday on payment of one lakh SDR ( Special Drawing Rights) compensation for the kin of air crash victims open the floodgates for demand for increased compensation from families who have already received full and final compensation from Air India, especially from those who have received less than one lakh SDR as full and final settlement?
There are differing views on this subject by both advocates representing the Air India and victims families.
Advocate and solicitor Hoshang D Nanavati from Mulla & Mulla representing Air India affirms they cannot. "I don't think so. First of all, many have got more than one lakh SDR. In cases which have been fully and finally settled there is no question of making any further payment because the payment was made on full and final basis,'' he says. He further adds the discharge document, signed by victims' families, makes it clear the amount has been paid is in full and final satisfaction of the liability.
