AI's Ludhiana flight lands late, again

Ludhiana: Sahnewal airport here, which started with much fanfare in May last year, has now made a 13-month record of delayed arrivals and take offs. On Thursday too, the lone flight did not land on time and touched down 50 minutes late at 6pm.
This is nothing new for anyone who has flown out or into Ludhiana. The delays in both arrivals and departures by the airport's only operational carrier Air India — to and from Delhi — has become the bane of frequent travellers, leaving some of them potentially short of prospective business deals and others bereft of small vacations. For Kapil Kalra, a paper mill owner based in Dugri, the regular delays have forced him to hire a driver to ferry him to Delhi during emergency business meetings.
Sharing his tale of woes at the Sahnewal airport, he said even booking an air ticket was a sheer waste of time. "The Shatabdi Express has been the best mode of travel from Ludhiana to Delhi," Kalra said. Dubbing his flight journeys out of Ludhiana as nightmarish experiences, Vinod Thapar of Hosiery Mills told TOI, "This flight has been a failure right from Day One and authorities concerned have never tried to improve the situation."
