In the wake of intelligence inputs from the US that terrorist groups might surgically implant a bomb to an air passenger, authorities at Chennai airport have decided to improve the security in the airport.
“We will be extra cautious while frisking and screening passengers. If we find any metallic item inside, we would make sure it is harmless and was implanted only due to some operation for health reasons,” said a senior security officer at Chennai Airport.
According to him, Chennai is now the hub for medical tourism and the number of passengers traveling by air after undergoing operations has increased in recent times.
“The passengers normally carry relevant paper with them, even though we don’t insist on any. However, we would ask few extra questions to make sure, there is nothing amiss,” the security officer added.
It is to be noted that India is also a key target for terrorist attacks as like US and certain European countries.
