Come February, you may get intra-state SpiceJet flights

Ahmedabad: The launch ofthe much-awaited intra-state flight services connecting Ahmedabad to other important cities in Gujarat seems to be back on track. Afterthe ambitious plan of Deccan Charters for such services was grounded, another low-cost airline — SpiceJet — has started making moves in this direction.
SpiceJet recently sought permission from the authorities of SardarVallabhbhai Patel International airport to provide parking space for its five aircraft from February 2012.
Earlier this year, the airline had shown interest in providing intra-state air connectivity in Gujarat and officials had also met government and airport authorities.
The airline aims to connect Ahmedabad to major places like Vadodara, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Diu and Bhuj. Bhuj is a highly industrialised town and the airline expects to get potential flyers to and from this town.
Currently, the airline is busy working out the launch of similar intra-state services in Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh.
The airline first wants to create a regional base in Hyderabad and then expand the operations in Ahmedabad, where it wants to park five Q400 Bombardier 78-seater light-weight planes. Earlier, Captain GR Gopinath’s Deccan Charters had planned similar services. But the company couldn’t get the required approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) over the lease agreement.
