Move to privatise airline ruled out

New Delhi: The government on Friday ruled out any move to privatise Air India, and promised support to the national carrier, even as angry Opposition members alleged a conspiracy on the part of the government to bankrupt it.
The matter was discussed during a calling attention motion in the Lok Sabha, with minister of state for parliamentary affairs V Narayanasamy answering in place of civil aviation minister Vayalar Ravi who was out of commission due to a throat infection.

Narayanswamy ruled out any move to privatise Air India and said the government would provide "all possible support" to strengthen the carrier. Listing various steps being contemplated to turn around the airline, he said there would be a complete “rationalisation” of manpower.
