Private airline pilot held for demanding dowry

Mumbai: A SpiceJet pilot was arrested on Monday from Mumbai’s domestic airport after his wife filed a complaint that he had been harassing her since their marriage and he took away her jewellery and abandoned her.
Preeti Jaiswal, 24, who hails from Rajasthan, told the police that she met her husband Ashish Jaiswal (26) one and half years ago in Delhi when she had gone for a job interview. They were in touch and later fell in love.
“They got married in a Ghaziabad court last August and stayed in Delhi for some time. The couple later shifted to Mumbai and stayed in a rented flat in Borivli (West),” said senior police inspector Bhagwan Chate of Borivli police station.
In Delhi, the woman had allegedly faced dowry demands from her in-laws.
“Around three days ago, I had gone to my friend’s place and returned home to find it locked. Since I had a duplicate key, I went inside to see that my jewellery and other valuables were missing from the house,” the woman told the police.
“When I called my husband, he told me that he doesn’t want to stay in a relationship with me anymore.”
