New Delhi: Air India chairman Rohit Nandan has reinstated two key officials who were shown the door by his predecessor, seeking to restore confidence among the 40,000 employees of the beleaguered national carrier that is reeling under a mountain of debt.
Anoop Srivatsava and Amol Sharma, whose services were terminated by former CMD Arvind Jhadav, were reappointed "with immediate effect", an order passed on Friday said. Srivastava, who is executive director customer services, and Sharma, ED related business, were on leave since February this year.
The move comes as a ray of hope for many Air India employees who had to forego promotions after the merger with Indian. "There were almost 43 executive director posts after the merger, which were pruned to 22. This has forced several officials to multitask.
Now that number has gone up to 24 and multitasking may be brought down," a senior AI official said. In an exclusive interview to ET last month, Nandan had answered in the affirmative when he was asked if the ousted officials would be reinstated.
"Anybody who has the intention of reviving the airline is welcome. These EDs, who are not here, are fairly senior people and I am sure they have enough insight on how the airline functions.
