Chennai: People who have been at the receiving end of airlines defaulting on payments due to them now have a happy precedent.
On a complaint filed by D Anand, a resident of Coimbatore, who was not given refund as per his entitlement, the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has ordered that his ticket money of Rs 7,495, be refunded along with Rs 5,000 as compensation.
Anand, who had booked five tickets online to fly from Goa to Bangalore by Kingfisher Airlines in February, 2007, cancelled them a week before the journey. The system failed to open when he tried logging the information online. After speaking to representatives of the airline, he sent them a telegram. Since there was no response, he sent a legal notice to the airline. There was no reply to this though the acknowledgment was signed by representatives of the airline, the complaint said.
