Mumbai airport: Deadline to open main runway extended again

Mumbai: Mumbai airport's main runway remained shut 48 hours after a Turkish Airlines flight skid off the runway and got stuck in mud. Earlier there were reports that the runway will open by 8 am on Sunday morning, but that target could not be achieved and the deadline has been extended. Reports then said that the main runway is likely to remain shut till Sunday afternoon. However, the deadline has been extended yet again and the runway continues to be shut.
Strong winds and rains continued to be a hurdle on Sunday morning. Officials said that all efforts have been on to open it as soon as possible.
Stuck deep in the mud, all attempts to remove the aircraft fell short all through Saturday due to heavy rains. A secondary runway has been opened for regular traffic but delays of upto an hour were reported during peak hours.
