Paramount’s plan to restart ops hits regulatory hurdle

New Delhi: Madurai-based Paramount Airways’ plan to restart its operation has hit regulatory hurdles with the civil aviation ministry objecting to the airline’s move to operate flights with two aircraft. The current aviation rules require airlines to maintain a fleet of a minimum of five aircraft.
“The civil aviation rules (CAR) clearly say that an airline can start operation with two aircraft, but it should have a fleet of a minimum of five aircraft in the second year of operation. Paramount is not a new airline. It is restarting its operation after the regulator suspended their permit so it should meet the five-aircraft rule,” a senior aviation ministry official said.
The ministry has asked the Directorate General of Civil Aviation to examine Paramount’s proposal to resume operation. The airline’s managing director M Thiagarajan, however, said that the company had received the necessary approval to begin scheduled operation.
