Confusion over licence of Calicut airport

New Delhi: The state-run Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed on Friday evening that the Calicut airport in Kerala does have a valid airport licence till 2013. The confirmation came hours after triggering of a controversy on Friday afternoon when one member of the Civil Aviation Safety Advisory Council (CASAC) claimed that the airport licence could have lapsed since June this year. The CASAC was set up by the Union Government after the Mangalore crash last year.
“Calicut airport has a valid airport licence till 2013,” a senior DGCA official dealing with licensing, told this newspaper. AAI chairman V.P. Agarwal also said that the airport has a valid licence.
