Fog grounds air passengers

D P Sarangi, the head of corporate communications in a private company, left home at 4.30 am to catch a flight to Bhubaneshwar.
After the security check, he boarded the flight, which was scheduled to take off from the Bengaluru International Airport at 6.40 am. Little did he know he would be spending about two hours on board waiting for take off.
Sarangi’s flight was one of the many delayed due to poor visibility, caused by fog, at the BIA. Ten departing flights and three arriving flights were delayed on Saturday, affecting hundreds of passengers. Passengers stuck on-board flights had nightmarish experiences.
In Sarangi’s flight, passengers weren’t allowed to use toilets.
While some complained of suffocation, some were offloaded for medical reasons.
The second announcement said “visibility has improved, but isn’t enough for take-off”. Sarangi said the final announcement said “there are many flights waiting in the taxiway for take-off. As a result, there would be further delay”. His flight eventually took off at 8.40 am.
