Chandigarh: Air travel is catching up in the city. The number of passengers at the local airport has reached over 6.5 lakh in the year 2010-1011, which is 2 lakh more than the previous year. The increase is significantly very high, highlighting the scope for more flights from Chandigarh airport. The stage is also set for international flights for Sharjah from November.

The newly built terminal of the Chandigarh airport has a capacity of accommodating 500 passengers at a time and there is movement of around 2,000 passengers daily. The maximum movement of passengers to city is from Delhi and Mumbai.
