Loader killed at International Airport

Bangalore: A loader was killed on the spot at Bengaluru International Airport when he came under the wheels of a speeding van fitted with a motorised conveyor belt (a heavy weight vehicle used to carry luggage) on Tuesday morning.
According to the International Airport Police, Ravi (32) was knocked down by the speeding vehicle operated by Global Ground India. He died of injuries on the spot.
Ravi, a native of Gauribidanur, is survived by his wife, two daughters aged two years and eight months, respectively.
The speed limit set for the vehicle is between 5 and 30 kmph whereas it was being driven at more than 40 kmph. There are nearly 500 such vehicles and many of them are not registered, it is said.
However, the GGI employees claimed that they had obtained permission from the authorities concerned. A case of negligence has been registered against the company. Srijith, the driver of the vehicle has been arrested, said the police.
