PM security caution for Aerocity

New Delhi: Aerocity, IGI Airport's under-construction hospitality zone, has been mired in security-related issues from the very beginning. Now, the Prime Minister's security wing of Delhi Police has written to the IGI police and CISF asking them to ensure that construction is stopped at least three hours prior to the VVIPs - including President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and heads of other countries - reaching the airport.
The letter further states that it is "advisable" if hundreds of these mostly part-time workers could be relocated as the PM security wing and SPG sanitize the routes.
A senior security cell officer described it to be a stop-gap solution. "We have decided to inspect the entire Aerocity with a technical panel of security experts soon. However, given various threats by terror outfits, we do not want to take any chance. We have also asked the IGI police to verify each worker's antecedents in the quickest possible time. We are contemplating handing over the verification process to the special branch," said a source.
The IGI police has confirmed that the decision is being implemented for the past fortnight.
The arrangement comes at a time the T3 terminal has been beset with its other problems. As many as 31 theft cases were reported this year at T3 compared to six at the domestic terminal.
