Patna: The heavy rush to fly in and out of Bihar during this festive season resulted in a record-breaking air fare of Rs 27,000 on the Delhi-Patna-Delhi route.
"It hardly matters if I have to shell out Rs 25,000 to fly to Delhi. What annoys the most is that one can get a seat for Rs 25,000 that too if he or she is lucky," said a city-based travel agent.
Almost all airlines connecting Patna with various destinations across the country are offering tickets to flyers -- in some cases -- at more than three times the normal fare.
At normal times, flying to Delhi from Patna costs around Rs 5,000 per ticket. Almost same is the air fare for Patna-Delhi flight.
"All the 10 airlines operating on the Delhi-Patna-Delhi route had around 80% of their capacity booked well in advance. The seats were booked mostly by non-resident Biharis and Biharis working in Delhi. A large number of spontaneous flyers have to be accommodated on the remaining seats. Perhaps that is why we are witnessing hike in fuel prices," said Sanjeev Sinha of the city-based Mamta Travels.
